House rules
We want to encourage an honest and forthright but polite and respectful conversation on social media. You can help make that happen by following our house rules:
- Don't write anything discriminatory, racist, abusive, obscene, inflammatory, defamatory, or unlawful under our posts.
- Avoid speculating about open investigations into recent incidents.
- Don't use copyright material without the owner's permission.
- Don't use the comments under our posts as a forum for self-promotion or commercial gain.
- Don't post comments irrelevant to the conversation at hand.
- Don't post spam under our posts
- Don’t share any personal information. If we need more information from you, we will contact you privately.
We would like to keep our social media accounts a safe and inclusive space, and we have created several additional policies to help us achieve this. While these are policies for our social media staff, we politely request that anyone commenting under our posts follow the same guidance to the best of their ability to keep discussions open and inclusive. These policies are as follows:
- Avoid excessive use of emojis and uppercase text.
- Avoid using any special characters to imitate different text styles, such as bold or italic text. These are mathematical characters that interfere with screen readers and are very inaccessible.
- When uploading any photos or animated GIFs, always provide alternate text using Twitter’s built-in photo editor, describing the content and meaning of these uploads to ensure users with screen readers are able to enjoy the content just like everyone else.
- When uploading videos, Twitter does not provide a built-in alternate text feature. In this case, describe the contents and meaning of the video in a reply below the original tweet.
Submitting a report
We care about the opinion of our users, so we’ve made it very easy to report any issues on our social media profiles. If you would like to report a user for breaking our house rules, please fill out this form.
If you have an issue with any of our social media team, please fill out this form to report the issue. Any responses made by our social media team are signed by the team member that wrote the response, so please ensure your report is correctly assigned to the same signature to ensure we can easily identify and investigate any issues.
Abuse of these forms is not allowed, and repeated offences will be considered a violation of these house rules.
Violating these rules
If we conclude that you are unwilling to follow the rules outlined above, we reserve the right to use tools provided by social media platforms to mute your messages, or block your access to our accounts completely. The content on our social media profiles is not essential for the use of our Services, so access to this content is considered a privilege, not a right, and we will not reinstate your access if we feel that your behaviour will not improve.
We will record and store a copy of any violating content that causes us to mute or block accounts on social media. Our standard Privacy Policy (tractionclogs.co.uk/policies/tc-privacy-policy) applies to this content, with the following additions or exceptions:
- This information is stored for record-keeping only to ensure we have evidence of any aggressive or abusive behaviour. This information will not be used for any marketing purposes.
- If you execute your “right to be forgotten” by requesting for us to delete all data tied to you, this content will be stored for 6 months (180 days) from the moment we receive your request. If you would like any information tied to your social media profile erased, please fill out this form.
- As a data subject, you have the right to request any information stored on you. If you would like a copy of any information tied to your social media profile, please fill out this form. Please note that you will need proof that you are the owner of the profile, which we will request after you have submitted your request.
